CrossFit Games 2021: What can you expect?

The CrossFit Games 2021 are on the horizon, and many of the participants are incredibly excited. Other than the traditional CrossFit Games, events for women will be held. The women's competition, Pegboard contests, Cutting system and Reebok equipment are all well-known. But, do you really know what to expect? Read on to find out more. Competition for women

This morning, the women's competition began at the 2021 Crossfit Games with the swim event. Jonne and Tia Claire Toomey-Orr won the first competition. Koski won the overall competition after maintaining her lead all the way. Tall finished second and Eramoo O’Connell third, respectively. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.

The women's competition features top-level female athletes. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Kara Saunders from Australia, who placed second in Australia and 11th globally in 2020 are other contenders. Andrea Nisler, a rising star who competed for the team division in 2018, finished third in America and fifteenth overall in 2020. This competition will include these athletes and Sara Sigmundsdottir of Iceland, a newcomer to Crossfit. She won the first place Medal at the World Crossfit Games earlier.

Pegboard contest

Pegboard at Crossfit Games 2020 was a first. It was added to Crossfit Games' summer Olympic program alongside double-unders & dumbbell overhead Squats. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. There were many ties throughout the contest, but ToomeyOrr was the dominant force that won the contest.

Athletes train for the CrossFit Games by focusing on ten general physical fitness skills: cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, and agility. The Pegboard contest tests a competitor's grip strength and coordination. The competitors compete by holding two wooden stakes between their fingers. The competition was intense, and the athletes left feeling satisfied after completing their Pegboard.


Cutting system

CrossFit Games will use a cutting system again for individual competitions. The cuts are not as severe as those used in past Games but they are still very different. The competition has 15 individual events. Therefore, it's likely that the first cut of 30 athletes will occur after the seventh or eight event. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? It's probable that the scoring table used for the 2019 games will remain nearly the same as the one used in 2021.

This year's CrossFit Games team includes 236 competitors, making it the largest ever. The first six events result in major cuts. The field is now reduced to 75. The top 30 finishers compete in a sprint pairt to determine who is the top ten. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Castro's system has been criticized by veterans Games athletes who feel that the cuts are too significant.

Reebok equipment

Reebok recently announced new CrossFit Games equipment, including clothing and shoes. The Nano X1 shoes are the new model. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Reebok calls the shoe "the shoe of health," but it is more like a traditional trainer shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoe's responsiveness is enhanced by the RopePro tech and a firm midsole.

CrossFit's agreement with Reebok will end at 2020. No title sponsor will be available for the Games. Reebok sponsored the Games for more a decade. Now, it is obvious that the company will lessen its involvement. Reebok will not fund the Games' prize pool, but it will still make all the equipment and apparel worn by athletes, even the Reebok gear. The company will no more refer to itself by the name "Reebok Fitness Games", as it does right now.
